I have a 82 Johnson 90 on my 17 Whaler. The boat spends part of the time floating in the canal behind my house. This morning I notice we had a very low tide, check on the boat and saw the engine in the water (sure I left it tilted up). The well had quite a bit of red fluid in it (assume trim oil)and the trim doesn't work.
Broken seal? Easy to fix? What do I need?Think its the center cylnder. How do I make sure? Thank you.

Re: Tilt/Trim

It doesn't seem to be a leaking cylinder but leaking in the back of the trim manifold. I'll have to lift the engine off the transom. I was thinking of using a cable and rachet from a tree branch. Anyone have advise on trying this?

Tampatom

see if you can acquire a spare crank nut and weld a ring or loop onto it. This will be handy for a point of lifting. They of course make these, but I'm not sure of the price.

Good luck...
:)
