This ? has to do with a 1966 Mercruiser
110hp 153ci I/O
It has power tilt, and a tilt switch on the dash
(up/dn)only.
the lower unit (out drive) has a lever that says
{no it dosn't talk} it reads reverse release.
It engages the lock to the trim pin.
what is this used for ?
Also can the tilt also be used to trim??

Re: Tilt & Trim ?

okay, where to start. with the last question yes trim can be used as tilt its the same thing its just said because you have two different kinds of hydrolic rams ones for trim and one for tilt. the longest one being the tilt ram.

the reverse lock pin thing, when you put your motor in reverse if it is not locked to the boat somehow it would just tilt up and not move the boat. when you put the shift in forward it should unlock the motor from teh pin. when you select reverse it should lock the motor.

im surprised to see someone with such an old motor. i have one i need to rebuild for someone and i ask questins and noone ever knows anythig abtou them. if you had to buy parts fro the motor post a reply and let me know where you got them. hopefully i helped you.

Re: Tilt & Trim ?

Thank you for the reply "Andrewflavin"

Yes I know the reverse pin locks when the reverse
shifter is engaged, I guess the ? is about the manual lever on the upper half of the outdrive.
The lever has two positions (lock/Release),
when in lock position it locks to the pin,
and does not unlock when in forward shift.
When in realese position it only locks when reverse shift, what would and when would you need to use this lever ?

About the boat & motor it is a 1966 Larson All American 166 Lapline , Mercruiser I/O
all origanal, it was in storage since 1970,
the owner past away and it was donated to the
Salvation Army for auction I won the bid(nobody elese bid) $350.00 and I have a classic Glass.
I Will post some sites where the parts are still avaible soon. Thanks
