Have a 2006 Yamaha F90 4 strk. After sitting up for a year the tilt/trim button works sometimes and sometimes not. When it stops I keep hitting the button 8-12 times (on the motor or throttle) and it starts working again. Later the cycle repeats again. I watched a Youtube video of how to check the relay and/or trim motor.....touching the blue wire to the red; then the green wire. I did that and it worked every time both up and down. So the motor seems fine. I assume the relay is bad. I looked at aftermarket relays online, range anywhere from $39-75. Yamaha's $220. Here's the issue: All the relays come with a plug at the end of the blue & green wiring -- which appears to be about 4 to 6 inches long in the online photos. So I went out to see if I have a 2 pin plug or 3 pin plug. There is no plug! The relay is on the starboard side of the motor. The green and blue wires have a black plastic sleeve around them and it goes over to the port side of the engine. I can see its about 15 inches long I'd say. Where it goes from there I don't know. I'm not the first owner. Maybe this was done by a mechanic or a prior owner. No idea, but there is NO plug. I'm beginning to "wonder" if the plugs were removed and wiring was spliced, soldered, or connected together somehow then the black sleeve put over it all. Just a guess, I don't know. If that should be the case, the connection inside there could be bad. I felt down the black sleeve and felt no plugs under it. It all felt the same. What I'm thinking is this: If I buy another relay I can just take the blue & green wire and the plug off the new relay and connect the wires I have to the new relay. Anybody got any ideas that can help me?
