Need to rewire tilt and trim on Merc I/O. Is there a way to run the wires without taking off the lower unit and gimbal housing? Can't drill a hole through the transom to run the wires to the outside, the wires will get pinched when engine turns.

It depends on what outdrive you have. . .

. . . I replaced the senders/wiring without disassembling things. Only had the outdrive off.

Don't go drilling through the transom . . . Do it right.

In my opion you have two options:
1> Reuse your old wires (cut solder/heat shrink) Works great, I just did mine.
2> Wait to change them the next time you have your drive off.

Can't do option 1, in some places, as soon as I touch the wire, everything crumbles, even the wire itselft. I have never seen wire and insulation coroded like this. I bypassed the tilt and trim and figured on following option 2. Thank you guys.

Replacing the switches can be done with a 12 inch 1/4 inch drive extension and a 7/16 swivel socket.Put the drive all the way down and you will be able to see the bolt that holds the wires into the transom plate.

And it can be done without removing the drive...
