OK, I've got a 79 1/2 (no distb)115 merc. Motor came without tilt and trim so I found a used complete set-up on Ebay. Its the one that has the pump inside the boat. I used it for two years with great success. Then, I had a drip on one of the hoses at the bottom of the trim ram, STBD side. So I gave the nut just a little itty bitty turn and pop, I STRIPPED the threads in the aluminum cylinder. Is there any way to fix the threads without having to find another whole cylinder? Its such a short hole I don't think I can helicoil it. Has anybody tried? The seal is at the end of the hose not the threads. It still works but I can't stand dripping oil in the water or on my garage floor.

George, That was a weakness of the design.

If there is enough room, how about using a brass flush bushing? You would need to drill and tap the hole to accept the flush bushing. The threads are probably NPT, with a taper, so I am not sure a helicoil would work. You would also need to use a NPT Tap.

I have all the NPT taps from 1/8 to 2". Not sure what a flush bushing is? Does the flush bushing have a seat in the bottom to accept the flare on the hose end? not much room between the two hose holes

A flush bushing is a doughnut-shaped disk of brass with outside threads and inside threads. It is used to reduce threaded pipe sizes from say 1/4" NPT to 1/8" NPT. Not sure if they have them in flare.
