tilt trim pump?

I have a 1987 searay with a trim pump. sae j 1171 I think it is a fairly common model. Is this a rebuildable motor? When it is energized it doesn't hum, get hot or anything. I even jumped out the solenoid and it didn't turn and I checked the voltage with a meter. Is it possible that the wiring came loose inside the cover or is there a overload internal that could be stuck open? Two different times the thing has stopped working then then a half hour later it works fine. This time however it has set for 4 hours and hasn't started working again. I would think that if it was in the pump the motor would at least try to start and hum but it doesn't so it leads me to believe the problem is in the motor. thanks in advance.

I jumped across the solenoids. When I press the trim switch the solenoids click.

You might want to read this thread and post some more info about your engine.

That SAE J 1171 number only indicates that it's manufactured to marine standard that allows it to be used in a gas engine compartment, it's not a part number.

I'm sorry about that. I have a 1987 searay pachanga with a 205hp 4.3l v6 the trim pump is for the outdrive with an alpha 1 replacement from sei.

I removed it and found the problem. The negative lead from the engine was loose inside the ring-crimped connector. It will get ya every time.
