Can anyone tell me what the ohm value of the trim potentiometer should be? Not sure whether it is my guage or the pot. From my initial checks, it looks like both. Any help would be apreciated.

Re: Tilt/Trim Problem

Stratguy
Welcome to the Board I think you will like this board.
I do not think you have given enough information for anyone to help you. I assume you are not talking about a trim tab problem. If I were to guess I would think you are talking about some type of trim tab indicator. I think you need to give Brand, Model, and a dicription of your problem and then ask your question.
Good Luck

Re: Tilt/Trim Problem

Ok, Here is a bit more information.
I have a 1989 pontoon boat with the original motor. It is a Johnson OMC 90HP VRO.
There is a potentiometer mounted on the port side of the motor mount with a small arm attached. When the motor is trimmed up or down, it moves the arm which turns the pot. This varies the voltage to the trim guage on my instrument cluster. It doesn't work anymore. I have tried a different pot but I am not sure what the resistance is suppose to be. I think the guage may be bad but when I ohmed the pot it did not appear to work correctly. So, if anyone knows what the ohm value of this pot is, please let me know.
Thanks

Using an Ohmmeter on the 1X scale and attached to the trim sender leads, you should get a reading between 1-88 Ohms as you move the lever from one extreme to the other.

Make sure to disconnect the leads from the gauge before you do this test..
