tilt/trim problem: unit goes up but not down!

I have a '91 Sunbird, 175 HP 4.3 OMC Cobra. Last weekend I had a problem: When i press the trim button up on the lever the unit raises with no problem, but when trying to lower it nothing happens. I had to lower the unit by manually releasing the pressure on the pump (huge pain in the neck). Could it be just a trim switch problem, or something bigger?<br /><br />Thanks

This topic pops up in this forum nearly every day. Try a search on "trim" or "tilt" and you'll find lots of useful info.<br /><br />Just to give you an idea on the possible cause of your problem: it can be the switch (less likely), solenoid/relay (most likely), loose wiring (likely) or maybe a bad hydraulic pump (probably not).<br /><br />Try to troubleshoot it first (based on the info you'll come up after you do a search) and you'll see which part of your trim/tilt system is causing this.<br /><br />Good luck<br />Lou

check the solinoid one for up,one for down good luck
