Tilt/trim or smart tabs?

I have a 16ft Blue Fin fish and ski, I should be getting a 1980 70Hp Evinrude Friday, which doesn't come with tilt or trim. My good friend has tilt/trim motors, plate and cables from an older Chrysler outboard in the 100hp range. I am wondering if that could be used on my boat with that Evinrude?

I am sorry I have a lack of information specifics, this is new to me I don't know what to look for.

If this isn't possible what about getting some smart tabs sx, to just help me get upon plane and be a little more stable?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: Tilt/trim or smart tabs?

Aries;

Please understand before you continue to read my response, that I am with Nauticus / Smart Tabs. However, there is no benefit in me telling you something that will not be realized once you use our product, because you will be back on this and possibly other forums to inform everyone of your results good or bad.

I think you need to deside what you are expecting from these two different devices (assuming you can install the tilt trim on this motor). Understand that with tilt trim you are asking the prop to do something besides propell the boat, and that is not efficient.

If your primary reason for the tilt trim is to make the boat plane better, then the trim tabs will out-perform the tilt trim hands down.

If you want to maximize the prop angle for the most efficiency, in power and economy at different speeds, then there is benefit to the tilt trim. However, the trim tabs will still out-perform the tilt trim, or any prop change in overall performance.

Re: Tilt/trim or smart tabs?

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards smart tabs for two reasons. First, I am short on cash and I would have to buy new controls to accomodate tilt/trim. Second, the fact that it is self sustaining and I do not have to really mess with them is appealing to me.

Are the blemished tabs still covered under the manufacturers warranty?
