TILT & TRIM ONLY WORKS ON 1 SIDE??

I have a 1979 evinrude 55 hp. & this is my problem,...i have 2 rams on the power tilt & trim (prestolite)... the ram on the right side works fine, goes up & down great....but the one on the left does nothing?? worse than that..when it's hooked up i can't raise the motor enough to latch the motor in the up position?? also when i try to put the motor down when i reach the last few inches the motor grunts to get it down??when i had the left side un hooked the ram would not go up or down all the way????thanks 4 reading this..

CC,<br /><br />You have a dry hydraulic cylinder. Are any lines showing that are pinched?

no, i can't see any problem with the line??? what i do know is that there must be some sort of obstruction in side the cyl. becouse the travel is shorter than the right side, both up & down???about 2" in both directions????
