Hey guys sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong thread. Just getting use to the site. I have a merc cruiser 5.0 thunderbolt in a 2001 viscount VIP.

Trim won't go up or down but the trim pump/motor makes noise. The outdrive is currently stuck in the up position.

Like I mentioned, when I press the up or down button I just hear a bunch of noise. But, when I press the trailer button the outdrive lift up just a tad. All buttons make noise.

I am familiar with outboard engines and their trim locks. do these inboards have some sort of lock that holds the unit up?

I recently purchased the boat knowing this issue. Previous owner had no idea what was wrong. I'm handy but unfamiliar with the functionality of inboards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

If your trim limit switch wasnt doing its job, the leg may have travelled too far and " locked up" Get someone to pull down hard on the leg, or stand on it for weight, to encourage it to lower while you operate the switch. Otherwise, unhooking the hydraulic rams may help. They might be seized up or just adding to the "locked up" scenario. Sounds like your electrics are working ok. PS Don't forget to check your fluid level while you're at it.

I have a 90 hp 2000 Johnson and I'm having issues with the Tilt trim button on the motor side and the Throttle will tilt down but won't tilt up when the up buttons are pushed Does anyone out there have any ideal what the problem could be?
