tilt/trim issue

have a mariner 60 hp serial #D054043 that sometimes will not tilt or trim with the switches on motor or console. it usually will go in one direction (up usually) but will not go down. if i keep working the switches so far it has eventually started working. could it be the tilt/trim relay? if so, what part number would i need? thanks.

You could just guess at what the problem might be, and then spend heaps of money replacing parts until you fix it, or you could get a multimeter and troubleshoot the problem properly.

What you need to do is see if the relay is getting voltage. if it is, then check that the ground wires are clean and secure. Do a resistance check on the relay coils, and check all the connectors and clean and good.
