tilt/trim guage sending unit question

Can anyone tell me if the Tilt/trim sending unit is used to control engine speed when the engine is tilted up? I do not have a tilt guage, but it seems the sending unit does not reliably read the specified 1 ohm in up and 88 ohms in down position. I was wondering if this sending unit could be be causing the engine to sporadically lose power.
I have 1987 Johnson 225.

Nope...the only thing the sending unit does in life is give you a reading on the trim gauge....if you have one. Tell us about the sporadic loss of power and any history of the engine on maint or what you have looked at.

Re: tilt/trim guage sending unit question

I am getting a late start this season. I just changed the PT/T motor because of intermittent operation from last year. Thats when I noticed the seding unit and checked it out.
The other problem was also happened last year. Boat starts fine and will run fine on the water at 1500 RPMs. If I try and accelerate, it dies at about 2000 RPM. I can keep it running by pushing the key for the enricher and lowering throttle to below 1500 RPM. After about 5 minutes, the engine will "kick in" and it will accelerate and run fine at full throttle for remainder of the day. I actually thought a therstat might be getting stuck and it might be going onto SLOW mode, so I changed the waterpump and thermostats this year. I should get get it back on the water later this week.

Re: tilt/trim guage sending unit question

The fact that you have to use the primer to get it running right says "fuel". When you first get on the water, do you pump up the bulb snug and does it stay snug before starting the engine? Fuel tank vented? If the engine runs OK for the rest of the day, it would seem that at initial start, your not getting the fuel system full when using the primer bulb and cranking and using the primer (choke) keeps the engine running until the fuel pump gets everything full. Does the engine repeat the problem after idling around for a while or after stopping?

Re: tilt/trim guage sending unit question

Once it gets running for the day, I don't think I had any problems....once Iget back on the water, I will probably start a new thread if I have the problem. Thanks for the info about the tilt sending unit.
