I have a 1990 evinrude 140 hp How do you get the top pin out? It's the pin that connects the piston to the motor. The pump motor is shot and needs to be replaced and we are having a heck of a time getting this assembly out.

There were 2 little cotter pins on both sides and we removed them i guess we should pound that rod out?

If it is seized, which Im assuming that it is, that is normal. You will need some good penetrating oil and a small sledge with a pin. Let the oil sit for a bit, then move the pin inch by inch. Some find that heating the exterior of the body , thus causing it to expand, helps in this. Once it gets going, it gets easier.

No, That pin usually has a plastic sleeve around it but they crack and fall apart.Thats probably why the pin is now rusted in there..
Support the engine before you drive it out.
