Let me start off by saying that I am new to this forum and to the boating world. And a little history would probably be in order as well. I got my first boat last summer and fished with it all summer. The boat was a 1983 Thundercraft 15ft. with a 80hp mariner also a 1983 with power tilt/trim. I noticed one day that the upper mounting bolts where a bit sunk in at the transom and it was cracking the fiberglass. I started doing research on replacing the transom and quickly learned it was probably well beyond my know how. I found a 16 ft 72 Ebbtide that had a fresh transom so I picked it up for pretty cheap. I commenced to transfering my motor over to the new boat and that is when the problems began. Now my tilt trim was stock i guess because it is integrated in the control box/ throttle box whatever you call it. First...my tilt trim does not work at all. There is a ribbon cable coming from the control box with 4 wires. That cable goes first to the trim motor via a plug that looks alot like a wall plug. also it goes to two wires going into the trim ram. Please remember I really am a newby so be gentle, lol. Second, when I was transfering the control box over, I had to disconnect the tilt/trim plug, and then disconnect the thottle/shift cables out of the back of the control box and when I put them back on, now the motor will only crank when it is in gear. I know I must have jacked something up but I thought it was a simple transfer. That will teach me I guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just dont know where to go from here.

Re: tilt/trim and starting problems

ok, so here is a little update. Thought I would try something but really did not have a reason as to why. I initially had the tilt/trim motor hooked up to one battery and the engine to a different battery. I then tried to hood them both to the same battery and shazam, the trim worked. Really dont understand why, I mean, all I did was change the engine harness to a different battery and all of a sudden it worked. I still can't start in neutral, only in gear. I know that the control box is acutally putting it in the correct gear. I would put it in forward gear and then check the prop, only spins in one direction, neutral, spins free in both directions, reverse is locked in both directions. Just don't know why she won't crank except in gear.

There is a start in neutral switch in the remote control. From what you say you have the cams messed up in the remote.
