Tilt trim 70s mercury 850

Would this style work on a 70s merc 850 thunderbolt ?

Doubtful. You probably need the swivel bracket assembly that matches that transom clamp, as you see the tilt rod needs a pin in the center of the swivel bracket..

Then the question is whether your steering arm and rod would fit into that swivel bracket assembly, and whether the yoke is the same..

Some have done what you have asked. They may have moved the powerhead onto a newer midsection. Someone on this forum may know.

The Yoke is definitely different, Best way is to check out the Parts List for the 850, and compare it to a List for the 1984 75hp, that was the 1st yr the new Bracket/Trim System was used.
