Newbie here.
Bought a boat this past spring and was able to take it on a short outing today. (Side note- Boat is a '91 166 Concept by Chris Craft with a '91 115hp Johnson and was serviced by a marine mechanic this spring. Mechanic told us that tach doesn't work due to rectifier having a bad sending unit (still charges)). When we bought it, we noticed that the Tilt and Trim button on the throttle was replace with a toggle switch on the dash (considering moving back to throttle) however really never thought anything of it at that time.
On our outing today we noticed that whenever you use the tilt/trim switch that the tach would display a reading (appears to be close to accurate reading). The obvious is that the previous owner messed up something with the wiring when they hooked up the new toggle switch. Question is for those familiar with boat wiring, how can I fix it so that it always works? What would be a good way to diagnose the wrong wiring?
I appreciate any thoughts you have!
