My tilt tab is very twitchy. I will be under way and the tilt will be down and all of a sudden it raises and comes out of the water. I took the control apart and the soldiering is fine but the brain of the small control is just about done for. Does anyone know where to get one? I don't need the whole throttle unit just the small tilt control. It's a 1991 chaparral 1800 sl. 3.0 mercruiser..any help would be amazing as I don't want to go out until fixed. Thanks

All of a sudden is raises and comes out of the water? does it raise while running forward or when you put it in reverse? I had a buddy with an air bubble in his hydaulic line this year. He launched the boat and got it to the dock, but when he put it in reverse the drive popped up because the hydraulics were no holding it down. The line was bled and everything was fine. I would think the force of the thrust would keep the drive down while under way.

Otherwise, there is a short in the contacts for the Trim UP.

Re: Tilt tab twitchy

well I took the throttle apart to get to the tilt tab yesterday. I checked the wires, they were all good, the soldiering even was good. but I had the titlt tab in my hand and I was able to wiggle it around (not pushing it up or down) and the outdrive would start going up and down...do I have to get a whole new throttle unit or can I get a replacement OEM chaparral tilt module?

I am guessing your switches internals are bad. Do you know the brand/model of the control box? Do a web search or even go to a local marine service place and see if they may even have an old control you could rob the switch out of.
