OK here is the deal...I have a 1989 Bayliner Capri I/O OMC.....I'm a sratight up newbie....So here it goes.. I Havent tried it yet cuz im scared i might break something....Does the trim have to be all the way down to for a boat to properly function in the water. What would be the effect if it was say in the middle. ( Coming from the up (maxed out) position)....:confused:Would the boat go faster or slower ruin the drive. I know that to put the trim up going ashore so that you dont ruin the prop but just wondering if anyone has tried it.:p

Re: Tilt Question...

Trim is adjusted for the best boat attitude through the speed range.
Very basically you would trim down for low speed operation the exact angle would depend on the feel to you. For hole shot you would trim down all the way and trim up gradually as your speed increases. Up trim tends to raise the bow and increase speed your looking for the most rpm and speed.Trimming down for rough water will ride smoother As you slow you would trim down to help keep the bow from rising too much. Most boats have a trim gauge that indicated normal operation range. Staying within that range will increase universal joint life.Excesive up trim will wear the joints.
