Re: tilt problem
Seems strange that both solenoids would go out at the same time. If yours is similar to mine, there are 2 50 amp fuses in a bracket on top of the engine, bolted to the intake manifold. One feeds the high-power side of the solenoid, it must be OK if you can the tilt by jumping the terminals (watch those sparks!! There is gasoline nearby). The other fuse feeds the tilt switch (and the rest of the controls I think). This may be out, since there is no clicking sound. There also should be a small fuse that protects the switch, somewhere in the control panel area. That's what I would suspect. Put a voltmeter on the switch leads and see if it's getting power.

Note that these OMC tilt units are notorious for having problems. The good news is that your tilt motor is probably OK. You don't want to have to replace that.Since you were having problems raising the unit before, make sure you lube the pivots on the outdrive! On my '83 they are under the rubber side bumpers on the intermed housing, you have to pry the bumbers off and remove some little caps to get to the zerc fittings. If you don't have a grease gun, get one and a tube of maring grease. Then take the 'quarter moon' gear loose from the outdrive and work the unit up and down by hand 6 or 8 times after you lube it, it should be heavy as hell, but not hard to pivot up and down.

Also make sure your battery is fully charged, mine will not go up unless the batt is fully up or the motor is running.

Good luck!
Tom
