If the pump keeps running, and the cylinders stop moving, and there is oil in the reservoir, there is something binding either the hydraulics or stopping the movement of the drive. You could check the pressure with the special gauges the dealers have, or if this has been going on for a while with no help it may be time to see a certified Volvo dealer to find out what the real problem is.
