tilt is a 12V non-hydrolic make. The boat engine model is a 250a /sp volvo penta (aka 151aq)
tilt was working fine, then after 1 month in my driveway it was not raiseing all the way and sounded laboured when raising only. checked battery (was fine), all cables and connections checked and fine. leg was 25% up, and when I tryed to lower it to remove it, tilt stoped working, the motor that powers the tilt was not getting any juice. now i can't remove the tilt to service it.
i can here the click in the electrical box on top of the tilt when i try to operate it. also the 40amp fuse on my engine block is fine as well. i ran a jumper directly to the tilt motor to test it / lower the leg.. the leg lowered finally and now i can't get the tilt unit to even budge (to remove). so the tilt is stuck, and the motor is out and working fine. so it sounds like i have a problem in the tilt motor box (relays?) and the tilt itself? ( since i bought boat boat 1 year ago raising the the tilt alway sounded chuncky and grindy when raiseing).
please give me some expert advice, the manual doesn't help me with these problems ,,, ty for your time.

Do you have a "beach" or "trailer" switch on the control/throttle lever? Volvo allows just about 25 degrees in/out while underway, to prevent accidental raising too high. After that amount of trim is used, you need to release the "beach/trailer" switch to allow further travel.

with a contanuity tester i found that power was going into the starbord relay but not comming out of it. the other relay seemed fine but tilt will not move up or down,,,,,is in down position right now but light is still on saying that its up. what now . ty,,,, the motor works fine, but i can not seem to remove the tilt itself. it is not budging.
were could i find a wiring diagram for the elecrical box,, there isnt one in my manual(of the wiring)and im still looking for a huge wrench to fit the nut (1 1/2'' i think) as my chanall locks wont turn it.
thanks

I'm a little confused. An AQ 250A had an SP-A drive on them and were hydraulic, not the mechanical lift you are talking about.
What drive model number do you have?
Maybe this chart will help.
Volvo Drive Chart
Assuming you have either a 270, 275 or 280, how many wires are going directly into the tilt motor itself, not the relays.

With the 4 wire motor, you probably have the 280.
Below is a wiring diagram of the mechanical lift (as Volvo calls them) the one thing you aren't taking into consideration is the fact that both relays are needed to change direction. Checking power only will not tell you much, as the grounds are also changed. You need to study (And understand) the diagram and how the system works before you can fix it.
Just to save time, I always carry a set of relays and just swap them out when all I here is a click. If it still just clicks, then it's time for meter and checking connections, voltages etc.
You aren't going to find any step-by-step procedures for this process unless someone else posted on a personal web site how to troubleshoot the system. About all you get from the manuals it the diagram I have shown.
It's just a matter of following the path of the power and the grounds.

Like I said on one of your other posts on this same subjec (you should only posts once on each problem) the pivot bushings may be froze up. If you are in salt water........... Good Luck. Oxy/Acet torch, a lot of care, and work, and it will all come apart.

Re: TILT,,,,,on volvo not working,,,,, PLEASE help

should i bother doing that? seems dangerous or expensive for me.
can i remove the screw spindle without removing the housing? ie,, would i lift the leg by hand and suport it with a stand then try to remove the presure plate and sealing nut so i can clean and inspect the screw spindle and replace the 2nd (iner) O ring? i found a bearing for 36$ and i will getting that tommorow as well as 2 bearing races.
