i've got an '87 model long shaft 15, and i've always wondered what the correct way to transport the thing is. it's got a trim pin(which i should replace, it's beyond rusted out) and a shallow water/deep water drive setting. also it tilts all the way up, but if i so much as look at it wrong, the motor will come crashing down. on closer inspection, the little sliding piece that locks the motor fully upright appears to be somewhat bent. flimsy little thing...

anyhow, were these engines meant to be transported fully tilted, or are they supposed to be in the normal running position?

it depends on the trailer application. if you have plenty of clearance, between foot of motor and the road, tow in normal down position. if you don't have the clearance get a transom saver, they are available in the iboats mega mall. i attaches to the back of trailer and supports the foot of the engine.
