Re: tilt motor on 3.0L 85 OMC

I'm not the big expert here, but from what I've read those motors break easy at the shaft's end where it's got a slot cut into it. But the click is only saying that the solenoid is trying to pass current to the motor, not necessarily that the power is actually getting to the motor. People say to check for corrosion on the solenoid power wires (the bigger wires) and to check a fuse in the larger power wires too, but I'm not sure where they are.

It's way back there near or on the transom. Use the search function on the topic. You'll find all kinds of hits.

From inside the boat, the black tilt motor is mounted at about 4 o'clock on the mid drive. The shaft goes through the mid drive to the right angle reducer, which drives the stainless pinion under the large gear.
There are 3 wires from it, black, green/& blue, (common, up, down) ending in a 3 way male plug. It's mated to a female plug and continues in a harness to a bank of 4 solenoids on the engine, (on my '84 5.7 OMC, anyways)
