I have a classic 88 spl and replaced the tilt motor. Problem is it looks like the "screwdriver" type key on the new motor doesn't sit or reach in the little hole inside the casing...where it spins to make pressure. It's the same fitting as old one, its working just not catching. I don't remember there being another part there when I took it apart...but there must be. Anyone know what I'm referring to? Is there a parts diagram around to see what I'm missing? Where can i find a fix to my issue? Thanks!

There has to be a female slot for the key to fit into; is it not there?

Look up your mtr on shop.evinrude.com and see if you have anything missing. They have good parts diagrams. There is a coupler between the mtr and the oil pump. Look on your floor LOL.
