Tilt lock Mech is gone

I have a 74 evinrude with an add on ptt. I tryed to launch the boat but when I put it in reverse the motor is trying to lift out of the water. When the add on ptt was added they took off the tilt lock mech. is there anything I can do to keep this from happing. If not will I be ok to run like this. Once I seen it bobbing I just turned it off and took the boat back home so I didn't fully go in reverse and back off the trailer. Please any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
