I am using a 9.9 mercury outboard (2000 or so) and rarely use it - I have a very simple and amateur question that I am unable to figure out. When I am done using the motor, I turn it off, turn the throttle to forward (which unlocks it) and fully tip it back so it is out of the water.... but I can not remember how to keep it locked in the upright position? I guessed that pulling it up and moving the tilt lock knob from unlock to lock would hold it, but that does not work. What am I missing or is something broken? Any help would be truly appreciated! Thank you.
