Hi,

I just obtained a tilt and trim unit complete- except for the control gear. I hope to be able to make it fit my '72 evinrude 65HP.

I notice that the motor just has just 2 wires. Before i connect up and end up frying the electrics an i correct in thinking this is just a 12V DC motor? And by basically swapping polarity of the 2 wires will determine if the unit lifts or lowers?

Just wanted to check.

If this is correct then can you reccomend ways of my controlling the tilt and trim?

Thanks

Ian

Re: Tilt and trim unit.

Hello Ian.....you are correct about swapping polarity on the two wires. Ground to green and hot to blue will make the engine raise and vise versa.

A three position (on-off-on) heavy duty sw. would work. Hot to the center post. I would use at least a 10ga. wire for leads.....this is back yard engineering..... :) .

To do the job right, you should have the rest of the gear that goes along with the TNT unit. Do you know what year the unit is? And a control box with the TNT sw built in. 'Sides that....you may have to do some engineering to make it fit the 72'.

Keep us posted.....thanks.

Re: Tilt and trim unit.

Hi OBJ,

I would like to get a proper control system. The trim tile is from an engine with the following details:
(donor)

Model: E75TRLCTE
Serial: B001502

I am trying to get it to fit the following:

'72 65HP
Model: 652735
Serial: B1645

As an added bonus (I think) The trim tilt unit came with the full transom bracket, and shocks from the donor engine. I was hoping to swap the whole thing. I thing a may have to make some adaption plates or blocks.

Any ideas?

I will post some photos later.

Ian

Ian.....your going to have a time trying to mount that unit. The transom brackets on the 72' are not engineered for the TNT unit and also used the old style clamp brackets to secure the engine to the transom which will also complicate mounting.

OBJ,
Possibly. However i have the full transom bracket from the donor engine.

If I can just make this fit the '72.....

Re: Tilt and trim unit.

Lemme take a look at some parts breakdowns Ian. See what I can see.

EDIT: Really looks close Ian but hard to tell from parts break down. Why not take a look at your engine and compare the swivel bracket on the 82' to yours. Maybe one of the other guys can shed some light on this as well.

OBJ,

I wiil take a close look tomorrow.- It's my turn to Bath the Kidz tonight.

I will take some measurements and take some close photos.

On the up side, I have the services of an engineering shop at my disposal. I can usually have most things made of need be. So If i need to make some adaption I can have parts made.

I am really keen to make this work.

Cheers

Ian
