I won't be able to help with your question, but it might help if you provided a little more info. Motor size, model and year.

Re: Tilt and Trim motor

I don't know if your unit is like mine on a 1987 150hp jonny but I was able to raise the motor up and using the tilt lock support the engine and then knock the tilt rod pin out. Then I removed the bolts holding the unit between the brackets and removed the unit. This was just to remove the pump motor; I had to cut the blue and green wires but I was replacing the motor anyway. Good luck

Re: Tilt and Trim motor

i tilted mine to the lock position then blocked the trailer wheels and tired the lower to a tree. (redneck safety) then knocked the pin out and undid the 6 bolts and pulled it out (i didnt cut the leads as they have a little tag inside that lets you get the white connector off but after lots of cursing if i did it again i might). i would surgest backing all 6 bolts for the tilt out at least 2 turns first as they can be a pain and if they break then the whole motor has to be removed. maybe with a socket set and insert tip you can get the last screw with out removing it

Re: Tilt and Trim motor

My motor has the tilt lock mechanism on it and I just used that. You could use a short 2x4 to block it up. My 3rd screw is too tight or close to get anything on it. 2nd what Glenn said be patient with those bolts; it took me a whole day to get just one out. I had to use a lot of oil and heat to get it with a hardened socket and breaker bar. That was before I got an impact wrench. Good luck.

OK I guess what I need to know my engine might fall when I take that pin out so I need to strap my lower unit correct? For the bolts they are fine came right out I guess that's a good thing

Re: Tilt and Trim motor

Don't know about Glenn but on mine I loosened the manual release valve and lowered(pushed) the tilt cylinder down all the way. Then I pulled from the top of cylinder outward and lifted the whole assembly out and carried it to my shop to take motor off and install the new one. Yours must be different, because mine only has four bolts to take out plus the tilt cylinder pin and the whole thing comes out as a unit.

Re: Tilt and Trim motor

sry i was saying that you might be able to use a 1/4 socket and extension (about 2") then use a screw driver tip in the 1/4 socket (tape holds it in place) i pulled the whole unit to change to a diffrent boat the one with trim and tilt came out in one piece easy as pie. the one with out the trim just the ram was a pain the bolts broke and i had to pull the whole engine off and spent 2 hours getting the transom sides off. thats why i would be willing to try the socket rather than risk the bolts but you say that you already can undo them so your started better to just carry on now
