There is a way to bleed air off when filling tilt and trim by manually lifting motor up and down. Does anyone know this procedure? I used it years ago on an Evinrude but can't remember if you put the fluid in with the motor up and then let it down or is the motor down and then lift it up and let it back down. I have a 96 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner and it is jerking and bouncing up and down when I lower the motor. Any suggestions? Thanks.

In most cases:

Raise and support the motor;

Open the fill port and add fluid until it runs out;

Close the port;

Release the support and cycle the motor up and down several times assisting manually if needed;

Repeat the whole process until no more fluid can be added.

The boat should be as level as possible and the manual release should be torqued to specs.
