Re: TILT AND TRIM GUAGE

Yep listen to the sound of your boat & the feel of your steering, proberly trimmed boat sounds like marbles hitting the bottom of your boat & should have no steering torque, failing that you can check the grounds at guage & sender on tilt pin, grounds good use an ohmeter on the sender, if its working replace guage or throw it overboard & put a water pressure guage in the hole instead.
Cheers,& hope you dont mind the sarcasm but it is in my mind a useless guage.
But i'm sure I will get some arguements about this one.

Re: TILT AND TRIM GUAGE

That motor should be SmartCraft gauge compatible. The trim senders on those are different than the analog gauge senders. I don't know which those came with from the factory, but I'd bet the three-wire SmartCraft (digital) sender as opposed to the brown/white plus ground wire sender for analog (needle) gauges.

If your boat came with that and it once worked, run a ground jumper between a good ground on the powerhead and the ground wire on the trim sender. Sometimes the ground path gets corroded somewhere between the powerhead and the swivel bracket. There are ground wires to connect it all, but it isn't uncommon for those to lose contact or break.

trim guage is needle type installed brand new with motor. like i said it works but only indicates up or down, not the true position.

mistylady

Re: TILT AND TRIM GUAGE

I don't think mine ever worked. I just look at the motor and level it with the water, not the boat. then as suggested above listen to the sound.
