Hello, I am replacing a Force outboard with a 1992 Tohatsu M70A2 outboard. When I purchased the motor it was already removed from the hull. I am trying to connect the electrical for the Tilt and Trim. It is a three wire Pink, Blue, and Black coming from the Tilt motor. The electrical schematic that I have shows two solenoids to control the up/down for the trim motor. There was only one solenoid with the with the motor when I got it. Are two solenoids needed? What wires go to the large connections and which ones go to the smaller connections on the solenoid(s)? The schematic shows what colors are coming from the solenoids, but not which lugs they should be connected to on the solenoid.

Also, It is a open skiff type hull. Where is the best place to install the solenoid(s).

All help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The engine takes two solenoids and they are not color coded...They mount on the engine in the bracket that is designed to hold them.

The diagram in the Factory service manual shows the mounting location. The tilt switch triggers each solenoid, the solenoid is essentially an electrically-controlled switch that then connects the heavy wires to the pump.

Elvin and Paul,

Thanks for responding to my questions! The motor has a PTT attached to it, but does not have the solenoids or motor bracket on the engine that you describe. The solenoid that I received with the motor looks like a starter type solenoid. The seller said that the PTT worked fine. I touched the wires from the PTT motor to the battery and the unit moved up and down. Is there some way that he might have "rigged" it to work with the starter type solenoid? There are other wires that are spliced into the wires coming from the PTT switch that I don't know why they are there. If not, Where can the OEM solenoids and engine bracket be found?

Thanks again!

You would need two 3C7725901M SOLENOID SWITCH, PTT $60.83
and 353725850M BRACKET $14.19
plus some cables.
These are available from any dealer, even me.
