TNT was working fine last month, when I went to trim motor up now it only goes up a little and stops abortly. I can hear the motor trying to come up but it sounds like it's stuck. It does not leak down or have I seen any leaks. It tilts down fine from where it had stopped. It doesn't sound or look sluggist, it just stops going up at the same point every time. What could be causing this?

Thanks,

Rob

Re: Tilt and trim, 1998 Force 50 hp

Hi all. I have the same thing happening with a 1989 Force 85hp. Just finished fitting a newer style prestolite pump/motor, but now it only lifts it as far as trim cyl lifts . Pump is running but sounds as if it's labouring. I wonder if the lift assist shock (the one on the left- with no lines going to it) is shot???? Engine went up & down with much ease with all lines disconnected but with no help from shock...

Re: Tilt and trim, 1998 Force 50 hp

Thanks guys for the responses. Here's
what I've done so far.

I emptied out the old fluid and TNT wouldn't go up or down on no fluid. Refilled using the fluid recommended. I cycled the motor up and down, rechecked fluid, I did this several time to make sure it would take all the fluid it could. All this to no avail, Same problem. Goes down fine, goes up for 1-2 seconds and stops. I loosen the release valve and repositoned the evaluation of the motor but at any point it can only go up a small tad.

It seems when I lock the trim switch in the up position, and go back to the motor I can help the motor trim up while I am pushing up on the motor a little while the electric motor is still running. Kind of like spotting someone lifting weights.

It's a Mercury style 1 piece integral TNT system. Looking at the diagram on the manual, it doesn't look complicated to breakdown and see what's going on but what do I look for? Cylinder? Pump assembly?

All this stuff is new to me so any help is appreciated.

Again, the same as mine. A little help & up she comes. Does yours have a ram on the left with no lines, (lift assist shock ,I think)???

I would concentrate on the pump assembly.

Took the trim motor off and want to test, but if the TNT is working fine when trimming in/down, does that mean motor is fine? Does the the trim motor spin only one way or does it spin both ways? Trying to narrow down the problem. Thanks.

Also have to get the lock pin out to remove the assembly. It stuck in there pretty good. Any ideas on how to get it off.
Well I finally got that stuborn pin out. I tested the tilt and trim assembly off the boat. It seem to go up and down okay off the boat, it tilts and trims without hesitation. I put the whole assembly back on and back to the same problem, it only goes up a briefly and quits. It still tilts down okay. What do y'all think?

Thanks for any help.
