Tiller Handle Question...

Say, question here, will an 18 hp Evinrude tiller handle from the mid 60s fit on a 40 hp Evinrude outobard from mid 60's? If not, what hp models johnson and Evinrude would work for a mid 60s 40 hp?<br /><br />Thanks

They're really very different, so I don't think so. The 18hp one is thru-bolted. So it's supported from both sides unlike the 40hp one which is only supported from one side. Perhaps with a lot of filing and modification, you could make it work because I think the gears will mesh. <br />Look for 35/33/28/40hp tillers. If it's helpful, I can take a picture of one for you. You'll also need a shaft + gear for the tilt/steering bracket end to replace the pointer.
