I have a 16' Lund with a tiller steer 50hp and was thinking of putting a easy glide stik steer on it .
Looking for some pros and cons of doing this.

Make sure it is rated for 50 hp.

THe one I had a few years ago, was only rated for up to 20 hp, per the sticker on the unit.

I was looking at the 840 model and 870 model both say up to 70hp but the 870 has quicker response or shorter travel . I have never used one just getting tired of reaching back so far

Re: Tiller handle or stick steer.

I had a stick steer ... rated for 50hp. Didn't think a 55 would make THAT much difference. YIKES! WOT making a turn and the stick breaks at the base! No fun! Repaired it and it broke again the second time out. Converted it to a steering wheel mounded sideways and steered the boat like I was in a wheel chair. That worked much better, I just couldn't keep both hands on the wheel!;)

Not as much a fan of stick steer anymore. Unless I HAD to keep weight in the front of the boat, or the boat just wasn't designed for a tiller, I would take a tiller over stick any day. (It was fun while it was working, but scary when it wasn't!)

I only used mine once, just to say I did, then I pulled it out and rebuilt the boat with a tiller.

When we've been looking at boats, the wife has consistently said I can buy anything as long as it doesn't have stick steering. She lived with a stick steer setup for a couple of years and was ecstatic when it finally left. Gotta agree....tried one once, take a tiller any day over it.
