I have a 5hp auxiliary Yamaha 5BS 661, I am wondering if any of the members know of an extension that I can use on the throttle that will enable me to control the engine from the captain seat rather than sit on the stern to control the boat.

Re: tiller extension

Hi Andy. While I'm not familiar with your particular motor, I've made a simply tiller extender for my '66 20hp Johnson by using a piece of thin-walled PVC. You simply cut 3-4 approximately 2''-3'' (4-6cm) long in one end, slide it over the stock tiller and hold it in place with a small pipe clamp. I've used mine for years without issue. Best of all, it pops right off and only cost a few bucks (quid) and it lets me sit/stand and move my weight around while underway as needed. Of course, there are fancy aluminum and carbon fiber versions, but that's probable overkill. Here's a pic of mine in situ.

Re: tiller extension

Please do Andy! I stole it from someone else myself :) You won't believe the difference it makes. You can sit, stand and move around anywhere you like while at the dock or underway. I can't imagine boating without one. Keep us posted. We love pics ;)

Tiller arm too loose... need to tighten it

Tiller arm too loose... need to tighten it

My tiller arm on my Yamaha 9.9hp outboard is too loose and always falls to the horizontal position. I want to use it with the tiller handle at a 45 degree angle. Where do I tighten the handle?
Thanks

Hi jim. I'm not that familiar with Yamahas. Try posting your question in the Yamaha forum. I'm sure someone there can help you. Aside from the tiller arm, how do you like the motor? I generally hear only good things about Yamis.

I like the engine very much. Quiet, smooth, and with the high thrust prop and long shaft, and electric start, it is perfect for maneuvering my Ericson 27. Removed my old, broken Atomic 4 and decided to simplify my life.
