Re: Tightening the Prop Nut: How Tight?
I generally use the German torque spec "gootenteicht" or failing that, for a single nut Mercruiser about 50 or 60 foot lbs. Stick a piece of 2 x 4 next to the prop against the drive while you tighten the nut. It will keep the prop stationary while tightening the nut. Don't forget to bend 3 of the 6 tangs down on the retainer clip. They sit inside the hub detents to keep the nut from backing off.
