as long as you realize that they do not make those any longer, and parts are often difficult to locate, then it may be a good deal. However if it needs a new head it may need a lot more and that could get expensive and time consuming.

If you are in the market for a jet ski and not just taking advantage of a "deal" then I would do a few things first.

Price how much the items would be for your friends ski and add that to the $300 asking price. Now take into consideration what might also be wrong, needing replacement or just plain ol' maintenance items and add that to the previous figure.

How much has added up?

Can you get a running ski with no "supprises" for that price?

My friend says that it would be better to replace the engine. He has worked for SBT for five years and he claims he can pick up an engine (with a one year replacement warranty) from his company for $850 (he owns a jetski repair shop). Would this be a deal to jump on??

that seems odd// a 770 from sbt only costs 700 with the warranty plus a few gaskets and shipping if you are not close enough to drop it off yourself.// he owns a ski repair shop and he doesn't want to bother with the ski/hmmmm???
what you could do is this// assuming the trailer is a good one it could be worth 150 to 250 by itself,, then part out the ski on e bay ,since parts are difficult to find, there are a lot of people looking for those parts. then take the hull to the land fill. then see if you made enough money to compensate you for all the time you spent on this..

You're right about the price on the engine. It is $700 even, but he was talking about shipping and the engine cost. He also said the ski will need a bearing replaced. I can resell the parts for the ski, but I have been looking for a sit down ski. I already have a standup Kawasaki, so the double trailer will work with both of them (I do not have a trailer for the Kawasaki). Should I just repair the ski (since I am planning to keep a running sit down), or should I just shop around for another running sit down??

I think I would look around. There are a lot of people out there, now, that will need to unload their "toys" come spring.
