Re: Tie downs

Mine (2013 18' Party Barge) didn't come with them either. About 10 bucks for wide ratchet type at Wal Mart. I'm just a lot more comfortable with the rear strapped down. Just don't forget to take them off when launching, when you see everyone else at the ramp laughing, you will know why......

Kind of depends how you tow. If you are just going a short distance at lower speeds I would not bother.

Don't tow any distance without them, for $10 it isn't worth it.

Re: Tie downs

My toons have 2 large eye holes on the end of the toons that i attach a trailer strap to the trailer. Just go buy your self a set.
Is the problem that you don't have a place to attach too?

If this picture came through you can see where my tie downs connect to holes on the back of the toon bracket. That is where the dfealer had them connected on delivery. Not sure your SunTracker has the same brackets, but check it out.

Glenn

Well it looks like either Photobucket or iboats has made a change and the old way of adding pix doesn't work anymore. Hope you can make out that tiny picture.

That worked

Absolutely!! Nice thing about a pontoon, you don't have to worry about launching with the drain plug out! Also, when you pull out of the water with your motor down, the skeg won't drag. Lots of things that happened to 'our boat' won't happen to the 'toon. All you have to do is get used to going S L O W.

Enjoy that barge!

Re: Tie downs

I do exactly what Glenn does. Works like a charm and cheap and solid. However, unlike the old screwball, I have never, repeat NEVER, attempted to launch the boat with them still attached.................Okay, maybe once or twice. But, I've never forgotten the plug.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not. Tempest in a teapot as far as I'm concerned since a twenty dollar bill will get you squared away. I'm sure they would have thrown in a pair when you bought the boat if you had fussed enough, but at this point the best thing to do is go to Academy, Bass Pro or whatever big box store is in your neck of the woods, get a pair like Glenn has (of straps that is:laugh:) and go have fun with your new boat. Welcome aboard BTW.:)

Re: Tie downs

In my opinion, and we all know who how good those are, never side-step safety for convenience. It doesn't matter if you are trailering one mile or hundreds. Tie downs are a safety issue and are certainly worth the little time to use them. Nobody ever plans on a boating accident on or off the water, but they still occur... my $000,000,000.02 worth... :watermelon:

Re: Tie downs

Glad you clarified that Incoop!

Glenn

LOL. Yeah, I got in the habit years ago of reading in its entirety anything I'm about to immortalize in print. I decided the double entendre was funny enough to remain but probably should be clarified.

This is what I do form "Ramp to Camp". But that is all pretty level ground and LOW speed. If I hook up and take it up the highway to the store for fuel (Non-ethanol), I strap it down just to be safe.

Also Welcome Aboard!

Re: Tie downs

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I was already planning to put straps on my new toon but I
just thought it was funny. The reason it bothered me so much was because I had the great pleasure of driving my brand new toon home in a snow storm.
