I have a 1995 Mercruiser was rebuilt 80hrs ago, heads rebuilt, stainless steel valves, new mainifolds, risers only are also stainless not manifolds
Compression in every cyclinder 168-178 never any water in oil starts up runs great
When I shut it down either after 30 seconds on a cold engine or up to operating temperature I have a clicking, pinging or something sounds like below the intake manifold
Anyone have any thoughts?

I was told that hydraulic lifters sound like random little clicks and snaps as they bleed off from valve spring pressure, I always thought the tings were caused by the hot metal cooling off, but then I heard it like you say right after shuting down a cool engine before it ever got warmed.

So you are saying that this normal?

I have never noticed it but like I said after a problem I
have been overly cautious and paranoid

I would have to actually hear it to say for sure. Others my chime in but if the engine is shut down lifter leak down would be the only thing causing movement, I would think it's nothing to worry about.
But on second thought, if your hearing injectors pulsing due to something electrical it could be a dangerous situation. again I would have to actually hear it, anything I say is speculation.

Thank You
What you are saying is exactly what it sounds like.
Since its a 4Bl Carb its defiantly not injectors

Could it be the stainless manifolds cooling?

Had the mechanic who built the engine check it out. We took of the valve covers and everything is the way it should be. As a70eliminator wrote in his post it is normal and is the lifter leak down. Also have a friend with a 440 in his Chalenger with hydrolic lifters and his
does the same.
Thanks for the advise
