I bought a boat on one of those sell it your self web sights and find out I have a ticking in my 1995 Murcury Tracker 115 motor (witch was not heard by my untrained ears). When I bought the Boat I had a compretion test done, Comprestion was good in all cilinders.

I have taken it to 2 different shops and they both say that I need to change the power head. Both places think it ran low on oil at some point.

If it is something in the power head why does the power head have to be replaced insted of rebuilding for less (if it is a rod). Is it that hard to rebuild, and that is why they say to just replace the power head

Just want to go fishing

Re: Ticking in my motor

sorry but this one of those cases were one would need to hear it in person - if you trust the shops you have been too then i'd say you have a problem - and i gather you dont have much mechanical exp. an untrained ear may not notice something that would send chills dover trained or experienced ear . here's what i would do if i wasn't sure of the diagnosis . take it into a mercury dealer and have them do a tune up ,and tell them that you have been getting a misfire - when they run it either they wont find anything or they will . from there you can make a better choice .

Re: Ticking in my motor

Does it "tick" after you put it in gear or just in neutral? A shift cable out of adjustment could be the problem. I bought an 86 Classic 50 for $300 because they said it had an engine noise and it was the lower unit was shifted into forward gear a little due to the cable being out of adjustment. I bought the motor without hearing it so I didn't feel bad when I fired it up on the stand and realized that was all it was.

Id add some oil in the tank if i was you. Could be your fuel pump isnt letting in enough or a restriction in carb jet. A very light tick might be ok or be really bad.
