I'm assuming the Tiara is a better boat to cruiser and fish the Chesapeake bay area ??

Have been/ fished on both , IMHO it would depend on ,engines ,hours ,updated electronics , survey report . The Tiara has had a few issues with the cored gunwales , porthole windows leaking due to not being re-bedded after 15 years or so of use. I believe the hull is solid glass and from there up cored. The cabin is women friendly and that may be a big selling point. Pocket props and the gel coat holds up extremely well over the years. Have seen mid 80s that are not chalked up. The Trojan sometimes has the hull side stripes that fade badly . Fishes just as well as the Tiara but for some reason is a bit of a slug with 454s. Designed by one of the best in the business. You may want to read the write up on both boats from that time period listed under boat reviews. www.yachtsurvey.com. Unfortunately the author Dave Pascoe passed a couple years ago but the family has kept the web site up. Articles on engines and coring as well that makes for a good read. If both boats are comparable I wouldn't hesitate to let the real Captain make her choice. Happy Wife , happy boating ! Good choices either way.

Not a fan of gas powered inboards in that class. Diesel or outboard all the way
Not going to find any Tiaras or Trojans in those years or any years for that matter in that configuration with outboards and very few were produced with diesels. Nothing wrong with gas inboards in the 454 /502 range for either of those boats. OP stated he was not going offshore which is where diesel efficiency might matter , if you plan on owning the boat for 10 -15 years. Outboards on a boat in that class hull and configuration will triple the cost compared to what those two boats sell for. GM inboards are the easiest power plant to work on ,hands down and the cheapest to replace with a off the shelf unit. How much is a new 300 hp outboard vs a big block ? 20,000$$ difference ? Sorry I am in the gas inboard camp and would never buy a boat over 27' powered by outboards. Pain to fish around and harder to diagnose vs a GM block.

Both are reputable, well built boats. Both have cockpits set-up for fishing. The Trojan will be more comfortable to overnight on. The trojan will be little trickier to negotiate the ladder if your fishing or docking with only one other person. The trojan will have better visibility forward and aft.

In this range of years, condition will reign supreme in decision making.
