I have just swapped a yamaha V6 stern drive for a mercruiser 5.7 and alpha 1. I utilised a few of the yamaha parts, power trim pump, cooling system and altermator power steer was about all I could swap off the V6. The donnor merc long motor I had completely rebuilt, I purchased a new carb and for the ignition I purchased an HEI merc distributor and thunderbolt V module off ebay. I blended it all into the old yamaha wiring and to my delight it fired up and ran first time. That was the good part. The bad part is it wont rev. I put a timing light on it and it dosnt seem to be getting any advance. I have chnaged the coil, cap rotor wires and swapped for another TB V module I borrowed.

Here's my question. If the TB V modules are off an EFI engine is there another input im missing for advance (purple/white wire maybe?) Is there actually a difference between modules for an EFI and carb motor or am I totally barking up the wrong tree. Will all my probelms go away if i use a TB IV, and if i do use one are the plugs interchangeable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Justin
