Thumbs up for Hardline Tach

I ordered a Hardline Tach/Hour meter from Amazon. When it arrived I tried every possible combination of programming, mounting location, inductive wire hookup etc but could not get a reasonable reading (15,000 RPM at idle). I called their customer service and spoke to a pleasant young lady named Dena. The tech specialists were off at a trade show, and she took my information & phone number and said she would have someone call me back, which they did the next day. She agreed to replace the unit at no cost and even upgraded to a newer model. The new tach arrived and after an easy install it works like a champ!

What a pleasure to deal with REAL Customer service! The company sells a nice product and offers real support to the end user. :)

BTW, I also found a solution to the "buzzing" shift lever noted in an earlier post.

Re: Thumbs up for Hardline Tach

Seems Amazon, West Marine stocks old models, the old hour tach has a long groove at back, the hour meter alone has the corner pick-up cable as in your pics. Good to place same cable distribution on the new hour/tach model. The only thing left is, go for a wot spin on flat waters and post max rpm results. Good to know that Hardline is committed to offer excellent Customer Service, a big plus when buying electronic gadgets.

Hi SR,

Took the boat out today...flat calm water and no wind. With a 1/2 inch shim on the transom I got 6030 RPM @ WOT, but did experience cavitation on sharp turns. I removed the shim and got 5980-5990 RPM @ WOT, and it seemed to have more "grip" and directional stability at that height, with no cavitation. The Garmin marine GPS gives reading of 23 MPH max, my hand held TomTom reads about 26. Either way, I think the trim is about right as the boat designer (it's a 15' Bolger Diablo) says to expect around 1 MPH per HP, so I think I'm in the ballpark or maybe a bit better.

Thanks for your help,

John

John,

Nice to read that your combo is finally well set and reaching it's near max wot rpm factory stated for that horse, enjoy full plane & wot cruising.
