On a 1986 50hp Mariner does the prop shaft Thrust washer (73345) go with the bevel side facing the prop or the gear case? Thanks

Re: Thrust washer

Look on the shaft. It should be tappered to match the bevel on the thrust washer thus having the thrust washer bevel side facing the gearcase.

It looks like a straight shaft. One parts breakdown shows the bevel towards the case the other has the flat towards the case. Any help?

Re: Thrust washer

On my 96 90hp mercury the thrust washer is towards the gearcase but the shaft is tapered. Is it a Mercury prop or an aftermarket with a replaceable hub system??

Re: Thrust washer

Just had the same quest. The taper went towards the shaft. It(the taper) was so slight I didn't notice it for a minute. If the washer is tapered and the shaft is not you have the wrong washer.

Thats a good prop example, come to think of it THIS IS A PROP QUESTION, go to prop forum.
