Hi I am about to do a thru hall exhaust conversion on my wellcraft nova and was wondering if I would be able to run a piece of stainless steel pipe right through the fiberglass. I know you can buy stainless tips but can I just use the exhaust pipe itself or will it be to hot for the fiberglass/ wood that's in there.

Ayuh,... It ain't so much the heat, but it's gotta be Sealed, to keep water out....

'n if it's sealed solid to the hull, the motor can't flex, without breakin' somethin'...

Ya need to do it Right, or not at all...

What Bondo said, ..... except,..... Yes, you can do what you are talking about, and that is the 'traditional' way that exhausts were installed. The transom is drilled slightly oversize, the exhaust pipe is run through, the pipe is caulked with cotton caulking, a chrome trim ring is fastened around the pipe in the outside. On the inside the pipe is supported & secured to saddle blocks etc up until it gets close to the engine, and then flexible hose is used to make the tie-in to the engine.
Of course this has to be a water cooled exhaust & not dry, and yes there has to be a flexible connection between the engine & the pipe or something will break.

Thru hull ( not hall ) . . I am wondering how much a coule of 4" Stainless Steel tubes would cost?? You might be better to do it the old fashion way with the hull fittings and flexible exhaust hoses instead.

I was thinking that a rubber connector from the stainless pipe to the manifold would allow the motor to flex enough and not tear since that's what it has stock. If I can get a slip through price to seal I should be able to get the stainless exhaust pipe to seal just as well right?
