I have a 2003 5 hp Mercury 2 cycle outboard. The specs say that it has "through the prop exhause", but the exhaust comes out above the waterline, just below the cowling. Whats the story here????
Chunk

It comes through both actually. If you run the motor on the muffs you will see it difinitely coming out of the prop also.

KC is correct. At idle in the water, there is enough backpressure of water in the leg to keep the exhaust from coming out the prop, but as you apply the throttle, if you are able to look tward the prop, you will begine to see the exhaust coming out through the prop, the propwash will become visable through the water (Providing the lake water is clear).

Hope this helps.

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/showphoto.php?photo=13002&sort=7&thecat=500&password=

Craig
