I have a hummingbird piranha max 4 depth finder for my aluminum johnboat. I’m looking for recommendations or if there’s even an option for a through the hull transducer for my boat. Thanks in advance

What you’re up against......

The competition......

Airmar does not recommend it. The transducer's sensitivity will be reduced transmitting through the metal hull, so you will not be able to see as deeply into the water. However installation in an aluminum hull is acceptable if the thickness is 3.8 mm (0.15",3/16") or less. The transducer must be epoxied directly to the aluminum hull. Use Airmar models P72, P79, or M260.

If you keep the boat moored all the time, then a thru-hull might be of some advantage simply because of marine growth. If it's a trailer boat, it makes no sense because they are so easy to install. Why suffer with poorer performance.

I currently have aluminum and have had several boats including glass with the ducer mounted inside near the keel and just forward of the transom. A good bubbleless epoxy and push the ducer down till in it till it squishes out the side and hits bottom.

I'm running 2 of those birds you mentioned on my current Crestliner 1750 Fish hawk; one as mentioned and the other on the bottom of the trolling motor.
