Throttle spring?

Hi Guys,
Quick question, before I had the mechanic do all the service to the drive and tune-up the engine there was a spring that went from the motor mount(front right) to the throttle(say 3-4 inches long and half an inch wide), it is not there anymore and the engine seems to be running fine on the muffs. Probably a stupid question, but does it need to be there?

1989 4.3L V6 mercruiser 262cubic inch 175hp, with Alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive

Thanks for the help

Re: Throttle spring?

As long as the idle returns to normal when the control is in the idle position,No its not needed. It was something probably added by a previous owner anyway. It wont hurt to put one back on if it bugs you..but the throttle cable should be adjusted to have a slight preload at idle position.
