throttle problems

My dad has a 1985 glassmaster and a 55HP Suzuki outboard engine and it starts up great but as soon as he puts in gear it stalls or it will run for a little bit then stall but it starts right back up. As he is going he also loses RPM's why? I hope someone can help us. Thanks!!!

Ahoy, Bugaboo. See what happens if you pump the primer bulb when this happens. If she takes off, you have a fuel starvation problem. This could be caused by restrictions in the fuel flow to the fuel pump, but is more likely to be the fuel pump needing overhaul.<br /><br />Check it out and get back to us.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . . .<br />JB
